Cocoa merchants take giant step

Cocoa Merchants Ghana Limited, a licenced cocoa-buying company, has gained global recognition with its new status as a member of the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF).

The company’s Managing Director, Nana Amo Adade Boamah, has also been elevated to the board of the WCF after being invited to participate in the Foundation’s 22nd partnership meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, last year.

The World Cocoa Foundation is an industry membership organization consisting of over 90 companies from around the world.

The foundation is unique in its proven ability to benefit and empower cocoa farmers through holistic partnership-driven programmes focused on farm-level training and applied research.

Nana Boamah in his acceptance speech said the Zurich conference was beneficial because it created a wonderful platform to learn so much about the Foundation and its sustainability programmes.

As a member of the foundation, the company is now better-positioned to assist its numerous farmers earn higher income.

It is now in good stead to empower farmers to educate their children and provide sustainability livelihoods in their various communities.

Cocoa Merchants currently operates in 78 districts throughout the cocoa producing regions in Ghana.

Since its inception in 1998, the company has progressively improved upon its performance and has a current market share of about 4.8 percent.
