US$50m Pokuase Bulk Supply Point to be completed by first quarter of 2021

Work on the Pokuase BSP Project is currently 61percent completed and it is scheduled to be handed over to Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) by the end of the first quarter of next year.

All the six major transformers, procured by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) for the ongoing Pokuase Bulk Supply Point Project have arrived in the country.

The arrival of the transformers, together with other related equipment, marks a significant milestone in the construction of the first 330KV Bulk Supply Point in Accra which, when completed, will be the largest substation in the country.

“MiDA is delighted by the fact that the current global challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic notwithstanding, such vital equipment have reached Ghana on time and will enable the contractor, Messrs Elecnor SA, to meet the project’s timelines and deliver this critical project for the benefit of the over 350,000 residents in the catchment area.

A large number of businesses, Institutions, and more importantly, some health facilities will also benefit from the project,” read the statement issued by MiDA’s Communications and Outreach Unit and copied to Business24.

According to the statement, MiDA has worked with the project contractors to put in place plans, protocols and best global practices that are aligned to government’s policies to ensure the safety of workers amid the coronavirus crisis.

The Pokuase BSP Project is being funded by the United States Government through its Agency, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the Government of Ghana as part of the Ghana Power Compact Program.

The Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, broke ground to commence work on this US$50 million Project on April 30, 2019.
