Passenger distancing to be introduced in aviation sector post coronavirus – Kofi Adda

Ghana’s aviation industry is set to introduce passenger distancing as part of efforts to mitigate and contain the spread of coronavirus, according to Kofi Adda, the sector minister.

This follows measures by the aviation industry to commence domestic flight operations after a three-week partial lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking in a virtual Regional Air Transport Industry Summit for Africa organized by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), Mr Adda said; “Passenger distancing is being introduced in the sector, where passengers would be made to sit at a safe distance apart and also ensure that all the necessary protocols are observed onboard flight.”

“Other measures being introduced include the testing of flight crew members before they start operations, as well as fumigation, regular passenger and handling crew sanitization as well as the acquisition of more Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for the Port Health officials and ground handling personnel,” he explained.

The Minister added other protocols have been developed to also guide the operators of domestic flights to contain the spread of coronavirus onboard flights.
