Coronavirus: Many Ghanaians cannot afford hand sanitizers – TUC tells Akufo-Addo

The Trade Union Congress of Ghana (TUC) has drawn President Akufo-Addo’s attention to the short supply of hand sanitizers across the country.

Measures to tackle the spread of coronavirus has led to a shortage of items such as hand sanitizers, nose masks and hand gloves.

In a statement issued by TUC and sighted by GhanaWeb, the union argues that even if there are available hand sanitizers and other preventive items, many cannot afford them because of the significant proportion of Ghanaians living in poverty.

They add that: “Even running water for hand washing is scarce in many parts of communities. Even our health facilities are complaining of insufficient running water”

The statement further appeals for the swift enhancement of all health facilities across the nation to address any mass outbreak of the coronavirus should there be one.

Ghana has so far recorded 24 cases of COVID-19 with one death, a Lebanese who resides in Kumasi.
