Juwel Energy, a local downstream oil and gas company, held off stiff competition from other industry players to be adjudged as the Bulk Oil Distributing Company of the Year, at the recently organized 2019 Ghana Oil and Gas Awards (GOGA).

The ceremony, which has been held successfully for the past six years, came off at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra and had the oil and gas industry leaders come together to network and celebrate the year, also saw Juwel Energy win the Indigenous Oil Company of the Year (Downstream).

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Deputy Minister of Energy, who was the special guest of honour, noted that government is prioritizing investments in explorations so that production numbers would go up and that would then reflect in revenues.

“Crude prices have dropped from US$80 per barrel half a decade ago but now it is around US$60. Meanwhile, we haven’t increased our total output. We are still producing from the same fields we have produced from some three or four years ago. This is why government has prioritised crude oil production in the medium to long term. To be able to increase crude production, we need to invest in exploration,” he said.

He lauded the winners on the night and urge all to continue contributing to the growth and development of the sector. The night saw big winners with Dr. Kofi Amoa-Abban- Rigworld International Service winning CEO of the Year (Downstream) and James K Ahiadome- James K Ahiadome Transport & Company winning CEO of the Year (Upstream).

Ghana Oil and Gas Awards remains the largest industry initiative dedicated to championing excellence endorsed by the Ministry of Energy in Partnership with industry stakeholders like the National Petroleum Authority and Ghana Oil and Gas Service Providers Association.

GOGA brings together players in the oil and gas industry and recognizes achievements from local and international companies involved in the Ghana oil and gas sector that have played a defining role in moving the industry forward. With the Ghanaian economy becoming increasingly reliant on energy to sustain growth, operators in oil and gas fields must be the very best at what they do to win an award.

The Award is a trademark owned by Xodus Communications Limited organizers of the Ghana Insurance Awards, Ghana Manufacturing Awards, Forty Under 40 Awards and Ghana Auto Awards. The initiative is to showcase company’s activities and achievement in the past year and reward excellence in Local Content, Stewardship, Health and Safety, Corporate Social Responsibility and more.

Three companies: Fidelity Bank, James K Ahiadome Transport & Company and Hills Oil Marketing Company were inducted into the Oil & Gas Hall of Fame.
