GT inaugurates mobile cell site at Bibiani

Bibiani (W/R), April 12, GNA - A Ghana Telecom Mobile Cell Site to link the people of Bibiani and its environs to other parts of the country has been inaugurated at Bibiani in the Western Region. Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications and Technology, who performed the ceremony on Monday, said the Government was determined to make access to telephones affordable to the majority of the people in the country.

He said as at the end of 2003, a total of 800,000 subscribers had been connected with telephones adding that about four million customers would be connected by the end of June 2006.

Mr Kan-Dapaah advised the people of the area to bury their political differences and fight a common goal of accelerating the development of the country.

Mr Baffour Awuah, Ashanti Regional Head of Ghana Telecom, said a total of 195 Cell Sites would be established throughout the country by the end of the year.

He said the Ashanti Regional Office of Telecom would run the site because of proximity.

In a welcoming address, Mr Christopher Addae, Acting District Chief Executive and Deputy Minister of Harbours and Railways, expressed gratitude to the Ghana Telecom for making the extension of the facility possible.

He said the people of the area would now have the opportunity to link up to their friends and relations everywhere. Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, Omanhene of the Sefwi-Anhwiaso Traditional Area, appealed to the Management of Ghana Telecom to extend their services to other parts of the Sefwi area.
