Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has called on all African countries to put the continent at the centre of their development plans.

He said there was the need to harness the entrepreneurial and intellectual skills of Africans as part of the development agenda.

Touching on the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Mr Dangote said in a tweet that : “It is time for Africans to put Africa at the center of its own development, by harnessing our entrepreneurial and intellectual skills. Let us collectively shun hate and reprisal attacks.”

“Our aspirations for a shared and sustainable prosperity can only be achieved when we live in peace and unity, shunning hate and any form of violent attack on African brotherhood.”

Meanwhile South Africa has apologised to countries affected by the attacks including Ghana.

Twelve people were killed earlier this month when the locals attacked businesses owned by black foreigners.

A special envoy from South Africa, Jeff Radebe, on Tuesday, 17 September 2019, on behalf of the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, delivered a message of apology to the government and people of Ghana for the attacks.

President Akufo-Addo accepted the apology in good faith and urged the South African authorities to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to book as soon as possible.

Three Ghanaians were attacked and injured while five were arrested by the South African authorities in the heat of the disturbances.
