WAIEMTI presents award to Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment

The West Africa Infrastructure, Energy, Mining, Transport and Investment Summit, WAIEMTI has presented an award to the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment in Nigeria.

The award followed participation and contributions of the Ministry to the successful hosting of WAIEMTI 2019 Summit held in Accra, Ghana from 27-31st of August 2019.

It was also in recognition of the Ministry effort towards promoting regional trade and economic integration especially in the era of Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) initiative.

The Federation of Agricultural Commodities of Nigeria (FACAN) was also presented with a special award based on its contribution to the promotion and development agricultural commodity trading as well as making agricultural practice more attractive and enterprising.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Edet S. Ekpan received the award on behalf of the Ministry. After commending the organisers, he called on an increased level of collaboration with the private sector in ECOWAS region in order not only catalyse regional integration but to also develop infrastructural facilities that would support regional trade and place ECOWAS member in competitive position with regards to AFCFTA.

While Dr. Bello Dogondaji received FACAN’s award on behalf of the Federation, Dr. Bello, who is also Secretary-General of FACAN, commented that the summit was wonderful and has provided a networking platform and avenue for exploring expanded market for various commodities that FACAN exhibited at the event.

He further stated that they had constructive engagements with prospective investors and that they already working toward consummating transactions.

Presenting the awards, Mr. Moses O.T Owharo said the award is in recognition of the impeccable contribution of the Federal ministry to trade and economic development in Nigeria and the ECOWAS Sub-region.

He said the aim of the summit is to contribution to ECOWAS trade development and growth in line with African integration, promoting eco-friendly business and to source investments and trade opportunities for the participating countries.

He further stated that arrangements are being made to facilitate programmes and initiatives that would support the funding of small scale mining and energy projects in the region.

The award presentation programme was attended by senior officials of the Ministry, leadership and members of FACAN as well as members of the press.

Also present at the award presenting ceremony were Hassan Abdulkadir who is a facilitator of the Summit and Aliyu Ibrahim, a member of the Board of WAIEMTI.

Other recipients of WAIEMTI 2019 awards include African Union, Commissioner of Trade of the African Union Commission, EtsuNupe, the Bank of Industry of Nigeria, and the Chinese Embassy in Ghana.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Owharo informed the gathering that the next edition of the Summit would be held in Gambia and further details shall be sent to the Ministry in due course.
