GUTA meets Customs over modalities for reviewed Import duties

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) is scheduled to meet the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) this afternoon to discuss the modalities for the implementation of the reviewed import duties.

Government has slashed the benchmark value of imports by 50 percent, effective Thursday, April, 04, 2019, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has announced.

The imports of vehicles, also saw a reduction of 30%.

Commenting on the development on Ekosii Sen on Asempa Fm, the President of GUTA, Dr. Joseph Obeng said the leadership of GUTA is heading off to Customs for a crunch meeting with the Commissioner on the reviewed import regime.

He insisted there must be a roadmap to the implementation now, by close of the day.

Dr. Joseph Obeng expressed his appreciation to the Council of Elders for their intervention in lessening the burden that was hitherto heaped on them at the country’s ports, while thanking the President for making good his promise on reviewing the country’s import duty regime.
