Like an oasis in the middle of a desert, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the newly created Savannah Region out of the Northern Region is set to become the digital technological hub of Ghana with the activities of Nasco Feeding Minds a Non-Governmental Organization, which launched the Information and Telecommunication Technology (ICT) Literacy project in September 2012.

Pupils of Kulmasa, Tuna will now have practical ICT lessons. This comes at the back of the commissioning of a 45-computer laboratory for schools in each community by Nasco Feeding Minds.

The Sawla Tuna Kalba District has over 30 Junior High Schools.

However, none has a single computer for students though ICT is a subject requirement under the Ghana Education Service Curriculum. Some ICT teachers in the district revealed they periodically rely on their personal laptops during ICT lessons. The practice according to a teacher at the Kulmasa Junior High School Kwabena Kingsley has affected the performances of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations. But these students will hive a sign of relief now as they have a fully furnished ICT laboratory. Mumuni Adams, a student of Kulmasa D/A JHS expressed his appreciation to Nasco Feeding Minds.

The launch of three (3) new centers last week at Kulmasa, Tuna and Kalba brings the total number of ICT centers to eight (8) serving about 7421 students and teachers. Chronicling the activities of Nasco Feeding Minds the Executive Director of Nasco Feeding Minds Banasco Seidu Nuhu intimated the success of the project finds evidence in the performance of students in the district.

Bansco Seidu Nuhu enumerated other projects the organization is engaged in, notably bee keeping, tree planting, sports development, migration and educational access and support for persons with disability. On behalf of the District Director Education Mr. Iddisah Seidu said Nasco Feeding Minds has contributed greatly to the performance of students in the district.

The District Chief Executive delivering the keynote address as the special guest of honor Mr. Lawal Tamimu noted that the contribution of organizations like Nasco Feeding Minds augments government efforts in delivering good quality education under the free senior High School policy.

Nasco Feeding minds has been involved with communities in the region developing people and empowering them to become technology literates and entrepreneurially equipped to improve lives at the community level.

Nasco Foundation received the 2017 ICT champion award from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) at the World Summit on Information Systems (WSIS) Forum in Geneva, Switzerland.

The President of Nasco Feeding Minds Ousman Umar who travelled from Barcelona to witness the launching expressed gratitude to all partners and volunteers for their support. We went on to show gratitude for the warm reception of the facilities by the chiefs and people as well as students, teachers and stakeholders.
