The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has caught forty companies complicit in stealing power to run their businesses.

According to the Revenue Protection Manager of ECG Zita Kyei Gyamfi, power theft is rampant within the Tema Region, adding that the power company has introduced new measures including monitoring and patrols with the police during the day and night to track such customers.

“We have collected GHC1,974, 493.63 out of the GHC2,000,000 that we have billed all the customers involved. When we get hold of you, you are supposed to pay everything but one way or the other we can ask you to pay 70% but within a month we’re supposed to collect everything. The collection is ongoing and at the end of the year we hope to collect every account that we have billed,” she told Joy News Tema Correspondent Kwame Yankah.
