Government just refusing to allow full scale operations of Sugar Factory – Komenda Chief
Komenda Chief insists that all the requirements has been met by government to run the sugar factory
The Paramount Chief of Komenda, Nana Kojo Kru III has debunked claims that unavailability of land has accounted for the non-functioning of the Komenda Sugar Factory.
According to him, the assertion is false as there is adequate land in the area to produce sugar canes to feed the factory.
The traditional area, he says has met all requirements by government to see the running of the factory but still government is adamant in reopening the factory in meeting the needs of the people of the area and country as a whole in terms of revenue and jobs.
Speaking in an interview with Kasapa News’ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour, the paramount chief Nana Kojo Kru II indicated that the various chiefs of the area have already made available 10,000 acres of land available to start out grower schemes to feed the castle and are even ready to do more if government is ready to reason with them .
The factory ,he added is rotting away and that government must fast track plans on the factory as the country would continue to lose millions if it is not allowed to operate.
Meanwhile, the Central regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has urged Ghanaians to be patient with the New Patriotic Party led administration as President Akufo-Addo is committed to fulfilling all his electoral promises to Ghanaians.
Government, he says inherited a lame economy which needs to be fixed first before moving on to deliver other promises to the benefit of all Ghanaians.
Mr. Kwamena Duncan described as unfair the continuous criticism of the government especially in completing projects initiated by the NDC administration.
According to the minister, the previous government must rather be blamed for poorly implementing such projects as a lot of them require total retooling before it can be made viable.
One of such programmes, he said is the Komenda Sugar factory which according to him, was poorly executed with a lot of tax payers’ money going down the drain.
