Avoid middlemen in meter acquisition - PURC

Acting Western and Central Regional Manager of the PURC, Jonathan Akwetey Acting Western and Central Regional Manager of the PURC, Jonathan Akwetey

The acting Western and Central Regional Manager of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Jonathan Akwetey, has advised consumers to desist from using middlemen or ‘goro’ boys to apply for new service connections.

He indicated that the middlemen usually thwart the processes and make applicants pay exorbitant fees rather than the approved ones.

“The PURC will not allow consumers to be cheated in that manner, we urge you to use the right procedures and communicate to us if you are facing challenges along the way.”

He added that the consumers have the right to seek redress at the Commission whenever the utility companies provide poor services to them.

The regional manager made this call during the Consumer Education programme held at Abakrampa in the Central Region last Monday.

He indicated that the PURC would protect the interests of all stakeholders and ensure fairness in the industry.

Mr. Akwetey urged consumers to always lodge complaints with authorized personnel of the utilities to avoid unnecessary delay in the resolution of their problems.
