Ignore fare hike rumours

The Road Transport Operators have in a press release on Monday, February 12 denied rumours of an increase in transport fares as being purported at some transport terminals by some groups of people who want to bring their name into disrepute.

The association, however, said they want to assure the general public that there is no such increase, thus, the information should be disregarded and have urged its members to comply with existing fares to avoid any confrontation with the travelling public.

The operators, however, stated that they have an arrangement with the Ministry of Transport to review transport fares periodically and are currently in discussion with them and will inform the general public accordingly.

PRESS RELEASE

PURPORTED INCREASE IN ROAD TRANSPORT FARES


We have heard rumours going round at some transport terminals in the country that transport fares have been increased.

We are alarmed by such false information being pelted round by some group of people who want to bring the reputation of the association into disrepute. We want to assure the General public that there is no such increase and the information should not be entertained.

We are by this statement, appealing to our members to disregard the information and to comply with the existing fares so as to avoid any confrontation with the travelling public.

We have an arrangement with the Ministry of Transport to review transport fares periodically. We are currently in discussion with the Ministry and when we are ready, we will inform the General Public accordingly.

We count on the cooperation of all members in this matter.
