The over 3,500-acre land demarcated to host more than 50 industries under the Shama District Free Zone project would have rail lines to facilitate easy movement of goods.

Mr. Ato Panford, the Member of Parliament for the area, said the traditional authorities and the Ministry of Railway Development are in talks to ensure the extension of the Western Railway lines project through the free zones enclave at Assorkor Essaman to ease carriage of bulk cargo to and from the industries to the port of Takoradi.

Mr. Panford, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the Shama District has lots of prospects in terms of lands for development which could speed up the economic fortunes of the area.

"I am also talking with the leadership of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to see the possibility of a port in Shama to support the industries that are to spring up in the area".

"As I speak, the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority has began conducting feasibility studies along the coast of Shama in earnest preparation of the free zones enclave.

Mr Panford said the realization of the project could contribute significantly to employment and wealth creation for the constituents and the country.
Some investors, he said, have already expressed interest to commence business in the District.

The MP said, the one district, one factory project would equally contribute to industrial growth in the area.

The free zone site is being developed by Black Ivy limited and the realization of the project could contribute significantly to employment and wealth creation in the district.
