Prof. Kwame Boasiako Omane-Antwi, Vice Rector of the Pentecost University has entreated accountants to have a foresight of where they want to go and what they want to achieve in the profession and not concentrate on the money they stand to make in the profession.

Speaking at Association of Chartered Certified Accountants’ (ACCA) 2017 students summit and job fair, Prof. Omane-Antwi said most people get into the accountancy profession just because they want to make money, think there is some status to be gained or they will be marketable in the future but that shouldn’t be the case.

He said passion is the most important thing needed to succeed in the profession adding that passion “drives people to create, discover, achieve and improve things”.

Prof. Omane-Antwi called on aspiring accountants to be creative, be computer savvy as technology is taking over the profession and also be experienced.

He said “the accountants that we need today must use their right brain skills. That is the right brain skills that give them a bigger picture, makes them innovative and creative, they have to have the future that they can look up to and become creators and people that can design things and make meaning out of a lot of things”.

This year’s summit was under the theme “ACCA Qualification- The future”.
