Business entrepreneurs advised to utilise ICT

Kumasi, Feb.28, GNA - Ghanaian business entrepreneurs and traders, have been advised to concentrate more on Information Communication Technology (ICT) for education on their transactions rather than relying merely on books and magazines.

Mr S.K. Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, who gave the advice said ICT was now the surest guarantee to efficiency and development of local and international businesses.

The advice was contained in an address read for him at the close of a five-day ICT training workshop in Kumasi on Friday, organised by the Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) and sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The workshop, which was held for Executives of Trade and Business Associations in the Ashanti region, was attended by 12 participants, and designed to help equip them with skills in ICT.

Mr Boafo called on major stakeholders of the private sector to collaborate with the PEF to design and implement programmes that would help promote and develop the private sector.

He said such collective efforts would also help to expedite action on plans aimed at promoting and developing the private sector in the country.

Dr Osei Boeh-Ocansey, Director-General of PEF, said Knowledge in ICT could become useful only if it was used positively. He, therefore, asked the participants to make full use of the experiences that they would acquire at the workshop by applying it to enhance their businesses.

Dr Boeh-Ocansey assured Business and trade associations in the region that the PEF would organise another training workshop on ICT to extend the technology to more people.

Mr Samuel Eshun, Chief Executive of Vitalinfonet Computer Services, Accra, who was the facilitator of the workshop, said the ICT skills acquired by participants would help traders and business executives to carry out research to improve transactions and to cut down cost.
