Local Gov’t Minister inspects Tamale projects

Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Friday inspected on-going projects being undertaken by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

The projects includes the Gumani storm drains, the upgrading of the Moshei-Zango community roads, the re-construction of the Tamale central market, the completion of the Aboabo super market and construction of additional stores at the Aboabo heavy duty car park, as well as the rehabilitation of the Tamale main abattoir, which would be fitted with LPG.

The Gumani storm drains and the Moshei Zongo community roads upgrading projects are being funded by the Agence Francaise De Development (AFD) whiles the Aboabo super market project is funded by the Government of Ghana.

The other projects are also being funded by the Ghana Urban Development Grants, under the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Programme.

He said the projects would improve the living conditions of the people, reduce poverty and infrastructure deficits in the Metropolis and also beautify the city.

Alhaji Dauda thanked the donor partners and commended the TMA for using the funds for the intended projects.

Alhaji Dauda, who is also the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, later addressed Assembly Members from the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Northern Region.

He shared his experiences with them and encouraged them to be determined and focused on the development of their electoral areas and districts. Alhaji Abdul Hanan Gundadow, Mayor of Tamale, said the major challenges to development in the Metropolis were funding and appealed to donor partners to come to the aid of the assembly.
