World Customs Organisation Day observed

The Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have observed this year’s World Customs Organisation Day.

This year’s ceremony, observed under the theme “Innovation for Customs Progress”, brought together key players in the industry.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Commissioner General of the GRA Mr. George Blankson urged stakeholders to unite in their purpose to resolve issues pertaining to international trade.

For his part, the Commissioner of Customs of the GRA Major-General Carl Modey commended his team, as the performance of Customs for two years running has been excellent. He also highlighted some image-cleansing exercises which the service has embarked on the weed-out all miscreants.

In a message, the Secretary General of World Customs Organisation, Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, said innovation is the key to sustainable customs reforms and modernisation.

The Deputy General Manager of GCNet, Mr. Emmanuel Darko, in his solidarity message assured Customs of GCNet’s commitment to the Ghana Revenue Authority.

"We will not relent in our effort to apply new cutting-edge technology in the deployment of innovative systems that will support Customs in its operations,” said Mr. Darko.

Some officers and stakeholders who excelled in their respective roles of facilitating trade and enhance revenue mobilisation were awarded.

Mr. Jonathan Ofori, Tradenet Manager, GCNet received a certificate for his key role in the deployment of the paperless clearing process currently in operation at Takoradi.

Ghana Community Network Services Ltd. (GCNet) was also awarded for rendering exceptional service to the International Customs Community.
