"Register your businesses"

Small-scale entrepreneurs have been urged to register their businesses, keep proper records and to deal with the banks, which were indicators of growth and survival.

Mrs Beatrice Boakye, Head of the Ashanti Region Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI) said these at the close of the four-day management appreciation seminar for 28 members of the Jewellers Association in Kumasi organised by BAC on Friday.

It was aimed at assisting small-scale jewellers to improve their managerial skills to enhance their businesses.

They were taken through assessing entrepreneurial skills, business survival and growth, management, record-keeping, costing and pricing, dealing with banks, marketing and business ethics.

Mrs Boakye asked them to use the knowledge and skills they had acquired to ensure the growth of their businesses and said BAC would be following their activities and would help them to expand.

Mr Kwabena Agyemang Brobbey, a participant, said the seminar has exposed them to new ideas and knowledge, which would help them to transform their businesses. He said their problems included acquiring equipment and material, especially gold for their operations.

Mr E.K. Doku, Chairman of the Jewellery Association, appealed to the government for assistance to acquire equipment to improve their products. ?
