The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Sarpong, has pledged to step up efforts to increase domestic revenue collection as the Authority works to support Ghana’s economic recovery.

He said the GRA would intensify tax administration reforms, improve services to taxpayers and modernise customs operations to help the country raise more revenue.

In a Facebook post on Friday, November 6, 2026, Sarpong said the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) assessment of Ghana’s revenue performance in 2026 was an indication of the work being done by the Authority.

IMF acknowledges Ghana’s strong revenue performance, progress in tax administration reforms

The IMF, in its first review under Ghana’s 36-month Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI), acknowledged the country’s strong revenue collections and progress in key tax administration reforms.

Among the measures highlighted by the Fund were the early completion of the review of customs and excise legislation, the ongoing digitalisation of tax administration through the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) and electronic fiscal devices.

The IMF also pointed to the prospects of increased non-oil revenue in 2027, while noting that stronger revenue mobilisation would be necessary to sustain fiscal stability and help Ghana withstand external shocks.

Reacting to the assessment, Sarpong said the GRA would not slow down its efforts but would continue working to improve the country’s revenue collection system.

“Our focus remains on strengthening revenue mobilisation, improving taxpayer services, modernising customs operations and investing in the technical competence, leadership development and working conditions of our staff,” he said.

He also commended staff of the Authority for their work and thanked taxpayers for supporting national development.

“I commend our hardworking staff and appreciate all taxpayers for their continued contribution to national development,” he added.

Sarpong reaffirmed the GRA’s commitment to building a more efficient, transparent and service-oriented institution as it works to improve domestic revenue mobilisation.
