The Food and Beverages sector emerged as the best-performing segment of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) in the first eight months of 2026, recording an impressive 431.9 percent growth, driven largely by the strong performance of indigenous beverage producer Kasapreko.
The sector’s performance significantly outpaced other segments of the market, highlighting growing investor appetite for listed consumer-oriented companies amid improving economic conditions.
The Finance sector ranked second with a 131.7 percent gain, followed by Agriculture at 123.2 percent. Manufacturing and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) placed fourth and fifth, recording growth of 120.3 percent and 80.5 percent, respectively.
The strong showing by financial stocks reflected improved profitability, stronger balance sheets and sustained investor confidence in the banking and financial services industry.
According to the Bank of Ghana (BoG), activity on the GSE remained buoyant in August, supported by improved corporate earnings, easing inflation, stronger investor confidence and continued macroeconomic stability.
The Central Bank reported that market capitalisation reached GH¢285.58 billion at the end of August 2026, compared with GH¢149.59 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.
This represented an increase of GH¢135.99 billion, or approximately 90.9 percent, over the 12-month period, reflecting substantial appreciation in share prices across financial and non-financial sectors.
The BoG attributed the expansion to increased demand for equities, improved corporate performance, lower interest rates and portfolio reallocation, alongside broader improvements in macroeconomic conditions.
Meanwhile, the GSE’s year-to-date return had climbed to 69.49 percent as of October 27, 2026, further demonstrating the market’s strong performance.
However, daily trading activity moderated, with total turnover declining by 14.54 percent to GH¢2 million after 798,643 shares changed hands across 27 counters.
MTN Ghana and Kasapreko were the most actively traded stocks, jointly accounting for 59.13 percent of total market turnover.
The performance reinforces the GSE’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination, with gains extending beyond traditional financial-sector stocks into consumer goods, agriculture and manufacturing.
