The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, has called for stronger policy coordination, increased climate finance and sustainable business practices to help Ghana compete in the emerging green economy.

He said Ghana needed to translate its climate commitments into practical actions, investment opportunities and measurable development outcomes.

Speaking at the Ghana National Climate and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Policy Summit 2026 in Accra on October 27, 2026, the Minister highlighted the need for institutional coordination, credible carbon markets, improved ESG reporting and stronger mobilisation of climate finance.

The summit, organised by the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability in collaboration with Intelligence Nature International, was held under the theme, “Decoding Policy and Regulation for the Next Economy”.

Seidu Issifu also urged businesses to prepare for emerging international regulations, particularly the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), by improving energy efficiency and emissions reporting.

He stressed that government, the private sector, financial institutions and development partners needed to work together to attract investment, strengthen industrial competitiveness and build climate resilience.

The Minister further called for climate action to be integrated into local development planning to protect vulnerable communities and support sustainable livelihoods.

He urged participants to develop practical recommendations that would improve regulatory clarity, strengthen accountability and unlock investment for Ghana’s green transition.

Seidu Issifu also highlighted Ghana’s strategic engagement at the upcoming COP31 climate conference as an important priority.

He subsequently declared the summit open, expressing confidence that stronger collaboration and effective policies could help build a climate-resilient, economically competitive and environmentally sustainable Ghana.
