Ghana has secured investment commitments of US$3.5 billion towards expanding operations and drilling new wells in the upstream petroleum sector, Minister for Energy and Green Transition Dr John Abdulai Jinapor has disclosed.
According to Dr Jinapor, the commitments reflect growing investor confidence in Ghana’s petroleum industry following sustained engagement with investors and ongoing legal and fiscal reforms.
In a Facebook post following his participation in the opening ceremony of African Energy Week, Dr Jinapor said the government was working to create a more competitive, predictable and business-friendly environment while protecting the country’s national interests.
He made the remarks during a fireside chat with Kosmos Energy Chief Executive Officer Andrew Inglis, moderated by African Energy Chamber Executive Chairman NJ Ayuk.
Dr Jinapor said the government’s efforts to revitalise the upstream petroleum sector were yielding encouraging results, including positive developments in crude oil production.
He said the priority was to sustain the momentum by attracting more investment, strengthening local participation and increasing domestic value addition.
“We are working to establish a more competitive, predictable and business-friendly environment while protecting Ghana’s national interests,” he stated.
The minister said Ghana also wanted to refine more of its crude oil locally to support industry, create jobs and strengthen the country’s energy security.
He expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the attention, strategic direction and support given to the energy sector, which he said were important for driving investment, growth and national development.
Dr Jinapor said the government remained committed to attracting investment, protecting Ghanaian interests and transforming the country’s natural resources into lasting economic value and shared prosperity.
African Energy Week brings together government officials, energy companies, investors and industry stakeholders to discuss investment opportunities and developments across Africa’s energy sector.
