Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said Ghana’s New Economy agenda must focus on creating jobs at scale to give young people meaningful opportunities to participate in the country’s economic future.

He said the government’s economic vision must go beyond growth figures and focus on creating decent and productive jobs for the country’s growing youth population.

Dr Ato Forson made the remarks after engaging academics, researchers and students at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala Campus.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, October 8, 2026, the Finance Minister described the engagement as successful and inspiring.

He said discussions with the academic community were important to shaping an economy that responds to the needs and aspirations of young Ghanaians.

“The New Economy must create jobs at scale,” Dr Ato Forson said.

He added that the jobs created under the new economic direction must not only be available in large numbers but also provide decent and productive work for young people.

“We need to create decent and productive jobs that give our young people a real stake in Ghana’s future,” he said.

The Finance Minister’s comments come as the government continues its engagements with universities and other stakeholders on its New Economy agenda.

He said young people must be at the centre of Ghana’s economic transformation, with opportunities created for them to contribute their skills and ideas to national development.

Dr Ato Forson also announced that the engagements would continue at the University of Ghana as the government seeks to broaden discussions on the New Economy.

“Today, we continue the engagements at the University of Ghana,” he said.

The engagements are expected to provide an opportunity for students, researchers and academics to share their views on the economic policies and priorities needed to create more opportunities for Ghana’s youth.
