Dr Issaka Yakubu Akparibo, Ghana’s first aerospace medicine specialist, has reportedly made history again.
According to a report by GHOne TV, the aerospace medicine specialist has now been inducted into the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine, making him the first African to achieve such a feat.
“Ghana's Dr Yakubu Akparibo makes history as the first African inducted into the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine,” a post shared by the Accra-based media house reads.
The academy is the highest global body in aviation and space medicine, and its membership cannot exceed the globally acceptable limit of 200 Fellows.
The Ghanaian doctor became a fellow of the academy after being selected from scientists across the globe based on their research work, publications and immense contribution to the aviation and space medicine sector.
A video from the induction ceremony showed the announcement of Dr Akparibo as the first African fellow of the academy to a rousing round of applause from the gathering.
Dr Akparibo is a board member and Medical Director of CareFlight Ghana.
His profile on CareFlight shows that he is an expert in aerospace and aviation medicine.

Dr Akparibo, the first Ghanaian Aerospace Medicine specialist, is a graduate of Wright State University Aerospace Medicine programme, King's College London and the Royal Air Force Centre of Aviation Medicine programmes.
He is also an Aviation Medical Examiner for the Federal Aviation Authority of the USA, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia, the South African Civil Aviation Authority and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
