President John Dramani Mahama has challenged global technology giant Microsoft to move beyond simply providing technology and services to Ghana and become a strategic partner in building the country’s digital economy, developing its young people and creating jobs.

The President made the call during high-level discussions with Microsoft executives in New York on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting focused strongly on digital skills development, youth employment, cybersecurity and the responsible use of technology, as Ghana seeks to position its young population at the centre of the country’s economic transformation.

President Mahama told the Microsoft delegation: “We are resetting Ghana for a new era of productivity, investment and job creation. I invite Microsoft to become a strategic partner in that transformation. Let us build in Ghana, not simply sell to Ghana, and together develop the skills, technologies and African solutions that can serve a market of more than 1.4 billion people.”

The New York discussions represent another step in Ghana’s effort to forge strategic partnerships with leading global corporations and align foreign investment with the Government’s Reset Agenda.

The objective is clear: equip Ghana’s young people with globally competitive skills, strengthen the country’s cybersecurity architecture, encourage innovation, attract investment and convert Ghana’s digital transformation into real jobs and economic opportunity.
