Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister Ahmed Ibrahim has threatened to blacklist contractors who fail to deliver on drain-dredging and other projects awarded by the ministry.

He said the government would no longer tolerate contractors who take on public contracts but fail to report to project sites, stressing that taxpayers must get value for their money.

Speaking in a video posted on X by Channel One News on Monday, September 7, 2026, Ahmed Ibrahim said the ministry would introduce regular monitoring and reporting to ensure that decisions and commitments made during such engagements translate into completed projects.

“These decisions taken here must not disappear into files after this retreat. There must be a regular follow-up on the commitments made, the milestones achieved, the challenges encountered, and the corrective measures required,” he said.

The minister disclosed that the ministry currently has 76 consulting projects scheduled for 2026 and said he, together with the Chief Director and Deputy Minister, would visit all the project sites to assess their progress.

“And that is why I'm saying, for the first time, you told me you are doing 76 consulting projects in 2026, for now up to November. So myself, Chief Director and Deputy Minister, including all of you, we will go to all the 76,” he said.

Ahmed Ibrahim also issued a strong warning to contractors who have secured government contracts but failed to commence work, saying such contractors risk losing future opportunities.

“And the contractors, I'm using this medium to tell you, if you came for our contract, go to site, for we are coming there,” he warned.

He said contractors found to be deliberately failing to execute their projects would be blacklisted and prevented from bidding for contracts under the ministry and its agencies, adding that the era of political entitlement in public contracting must end.

“Once you are blacklisted, you will not qualify to bid for any contract in any of our agencies and departments again,” Ahmed Ibrahim said.

“The era of political entitlement must be a thing of the past,” he added.
