Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the ongoing ultramodern VIP Lounge at the Accra International Airport will be completed and handed over before the end of 2026.

According to Ablakwa, the project demonstrates what can be achieved through private-sector partnerships without relying on public funds or conventional public procurement.

The Minister said the facility is being constructed without taxpayer funding, with local Ghanaian businesses providing the required financing through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.

Ablakwa made the disclosure on Friday, September 4, 2026, after inspecting the facility. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and the quality of construction.

“I am really impressed,” he said, adding that the facility would be completed and handed over before the end of the year.

Ablakwa explained that participating businesses are not channeling funds through government. Instead, they are paying local contractors directly to undertake various aspects of the project.

“We are fully delivering this project without touching taxpayer funds,” he stated.

He described the funding arrangement as an innovative approach to supporting public infrastructure while avoiding additional pressure on government finances.

The Estate Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is supervising the project to ensure that construction works meet the required standards.
