The newly appointed Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, has urged management and staff of the ministry to explore new opportunities and develop ideas that can help create jobs for Ghanaians.

He said unemployment remains a major challenge and called on staff, particularly young officers, to research how other countries have tackled unemployment and identify solutions that could be adapted to Ghana.

“Go and do research as to how we can create jobs. We are not the only country that is struggling with unemployment. How were people able to solve it? How can we solve our case?” he said.

The Minister said the ministry needs practical and innovative ideas that can create jobs while improving productivity.

He also called for greater teamwork among staff, noting that both experienced and younger officers have valuable ideas and perspectives to contribute.

“You guys have got a lot of experience. We can share together, especially the young ones as well,” he said.

Agyekum further called for job creation to be incorporated into the plans and budgets of all government ministries.

He disclosed that he had directed the preparation of a proposal to be submitted to Cabinet, requiring ministries to demonstrate how their budgets and programmes would contribute to job creation.

“I've asked the director to give us a paper to Cabinet, that each and every one, all the ministries, if you are submitting your budget, at least your budget should be able to create jobs,” he said.

The Minister said ministries must develop clear strategies to show how their activities could create employment opportunities and support Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.

He stressed that tackling unemployment would require fresh ideas, innovation and collaboration across government to create more opportunities for Ghanaians.
