The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has officially launched its 40th-anniversary celebrations, marking four decades of facilitating trade and contributing to national development.

The launch event drew key stakeholders from across the maritime, shipping, logistics and trade sectors. Held under the theme, “40 Years of Service, Partnership and Progress: Building West Africa’s Trade and Logistics Hub,” the milestone provides an opportunity for the Authority to reflect on its achievements and legacy while setting its sights on innovation and sustainable growth.

Addressing the gathering, the Director-General of GPHA, Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, paid tribute to the dedication and hard work of the Authority’s staff and partners, whose collective efforts have helped establish GPHA as a cornerstone of Ghana’s economy.

“This anniversary provides us with an invaluable opportunity to engage more closely with our stakeholders, reflect on our achievements, and strengthen our collaborations as we work towards realising our strategic vision,” Major General Tanye-Kulono stated.

Reaffirming the leadership’s commitment to the path ahead, the Board Chairman of GPHA, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, emphasised the Board’s determination to keep the Authority at the forefront of Ghana’s economic expansion.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah noted that the Board remains focused on strengthening operational capacity and pioneering the adoption of green port technologies to future-proof the country’s ports for the next 40 years and beyond.

“GPHA will continue to serve as a catalyst for development, setting benchmarks within the maritime and logistics industry while relentlessly pursuing excellence and innovation in all our operations,” he said.

He also expressed profound gratitude to the Authority’s partners, whose enduring support has contributed significantly to GPHA’s growth over the past four decades.

The year-long anniversary celebrations will feature a diverse lineup of activities designed to engage staff, industry players and the wider public. The activities will celebrate the Authority’s achievements and milestones while charting a forward-looking course for West Africa’s trade and logistics hub.
