Police foil robbery attack at GCB's Labone branch

The Ghana Police Service has announced that its officers have stopped an armed robbery attack in Labone, a suburb of the nation’s capital, Accra.

In a post shared on social media on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the police indicated that the attack was on the Labone branch of GCB Bank PLC.

It indicated that its officers shot two of the assailants during the intervention and arrested one of them.

“The Ghana Police Service today 13th August, 2026, foiled a robbery attempt on the GCB Bank, Labone, Accra. Two suspects have been gunned down and one has been arrested,” the police wrote.

It is not clear whether the two suspects who were shot are dead or have sustained serious injuries.

The police indicated that it was going to communicate more details of the incident in due course.

A video from the scene of the incident showed police officers carrying a lifeless body.

The policemen, who were mostly in plain clothes, were armed to the teeth.
