GACL vows to crack down on begging and extortion at Accra International Airport

The Ghana Airport Company Limited says it is stepping up its crackdown on begging, extortion and other forms of misconduct at the airport following repeated complaints from passengers and other airport users.

Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare says the company will not tolerate any staff member who harasses or solicitsmoney from passengers, insisting that anyone who encounters such conduct should report it for immediate action.

She was speaking when Parliament’s Committee on Transport engaged the Ghana Airport Company Limited on issues affecting operations and passenger experience.

Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare disclosed that two workers have recently been dismissed after they were found to have engaged in begging.

She says the company is determined to enforce discipline and protect the reputation of Ghana’s main international gateway.

Meanwhile, with several major projects underway including the upgrade of Terminal 2, expansion of the car park and development of an airport hotel, the Ghana Airport Company says it is working to significantly improve the experience of the airport users.
