Ketu North Member of Parliament Eric Edem Agbana has accused the Minority in Parliament of contradicting itself in its attempts to explain Ghana's current economic stability, saying the opposition cannot agree on what has driven the country's improved economic performance.
Speaking during the debate on the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review on Wednesday, July 29, the Majority MP said the conflicting arguments advanced by the Minority demonstrated its inability to accept that the Mahama administration deserved recognition for stabilising the economy.
Agbana noted that some opposition lawmakers had credited the improvement to GoldBod and rising international gold prices, while others argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was simply reaping the benefits of policies implemented by the previous administration.
"It is very striking that even among them there is so much contradiction because some of them attribute the stability to the operations of GoldBod and the prices of gold on the global market, and some also claim it is because of the strong fundamentals they left behind for President Mahama. In fact, even yesterday, somebody tried to credit Osafo Marfo, who was the Finance Minister many years ago."
He maintained that the opposition's changing narrative was evidence that it had acknowledged the country's economic progress but was unwilling to give President John Dramani Mahama the recognition he deserved.
According to Agbana, the government's economic policies and leadership had restored confidence in the economy, leaving the Minority searching for alternative explanations.
