The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has been honoured by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in recognition of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and constructive engagement with the media.
The award was presented at the Second World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) Honours Night held in Accra on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
According to the GJA, the recognition acknowledges the Bank's sustained efforts to support national development through open communication, timely dissemination of information, and collaboration with the media to enhance public understanding of economic and financial issues.
Bernard Otabil, Director of Communications, and Emelia Awuviri, Director of the External Facilities and Project Administration Department, received the award on behalf of the Bank of Ghana.
The honour reflects the central bank's role in fostering public confidence through transparent policymaking and regular engagement with stakeholders, including journalists, industry players, and the general public.
Over the years, the Bank has strengthened its communication channels by providing regular updates on monetary policy decisions, inflation trends, financial sector developments, and other key economic indicators that shape national discourse and policy direction.
The World Press Freedom Day Honours Night is an annual initiative of the GJA aimed at recognising individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to media excellence, press freedom, good governance, and national development.
This year's event highlighted the importance of collaboration between public institutions and the media in promoting transparency, accountability, and informed public discourse. It brought together journalists, policymakers, business leaders, civil society representatives, and development partners to celebrate achievements in advancing press freedom and democratic governance.
The GJA noted that strong partnerships between public institutions and the media are essential for building an informed citizenry and strengthening democratic accountability.
The recognition of the Bank of Ghana underscores the growing importance of transparent communication in public administration and the role of institutions in ensuring that citizens have access to accurate and timely information on matters of national interest.
