The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to complete a major network upgrade aimed at strengthening power supply across Kumasi, with the project scheduled for completion by June 5, 2026.

The ongoing works involve key sub-transmission lines linking the KNUST Primary Substation to the Kaase Primary Substation, as well as the Kaase line extending to the Ridge Bulk Supply Point.

The intervention forms part of a broader effort to modernise and reinforce the electricity infrastructure serving one of Ghana’s fastest-growing urban corridors.

According to the Electricity Company of Ghana, the project includes the replacement of existing 265 sqmm conductors with higher-capacity 400 sqmm conductors. Weak and ageing cables are also being replaced to improve the system’s ability to transfer power efficiently and safely across the network.

Once completed, the upgrade is expected to significantly enhance voltage quality, improve supply reliability, and boost overall stability for communities including Kaase, Kuntenase, Sewua, Bekwai and surrounding areas.

It will also strengthen the link between the Kumasi 1 (K1) and Kumasi 2 (K2) Bulk Supply Points, improving resilience within the Ashanti Region’s power grid.
