President John Dramani Mahama has urged the need to strengthen Ghana’s agribusiness value chains, warning that the disconnect between production and processing continues to undermine economic growth and industrial expansion.
Speaking at the 2026 Ghana CEO Summit in Accra on May 28, 2026, he said many farmers still struggle to secure reliable markets for their produce, while factories also face challenges accessing quality raw materials in adequate quantities.
“Farmers often struggle to find reliable buyers while factories struggle to secure raw materials in the right quantity and quality. When this happens, farmers lose income, factories operate below capacity, and the country loses value,” he stated.

According to him, the government’s industrialisation agenda will focus heavily on linking agriculture to processing, packaging, and exports in order to create jobs and retain more value within the local economy.
President Mahama also highlighted the importance of the proposed 24-hour economy policy, describing it as a strategy aimed at improving productivity and maximising Ghana’s economic potential.
“The concept is not simply about asking people to work at night. It is about utilising our productive capacities more efficiently,” he explained.
He disclosed that government is preparing a comprehensive economic transformation programme that will include reducing electricity costs for industries, improving logistics systems, expanding agro-processing, and introducing incentives to support businesses.
He further urged local businesses to position themselves competitively under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), stressing that Ghana must go beyond merely hosting the continental secretariat.
“Our firms need standard certification systems, packaging, logistics, financing, and reliable market information. ‘Made in Ghana’ must become a mark of confidence in African and global markets,” President Mahama stressed.
Business leaders, policymakers, and industry players gathered at the 10th Ghana CEO Summit under the theme, “Managing Financial Sector Reforms and Industrial Growth: Driving Ghana’s Economic Transformation from Vision to Action.”
