Efforts are underway to restore stable electricity supply across the country, with engineers working intensively to recover lost capacity following the recent fire outbreak at the Akosombo substation.

The incident, which damaged critical infrastructure at the GRIDCo facility, disrupted power evacuation from the Akosombo Dam, leaving a significant portion of generated electricity stranded and triggering outages in several parts of the country.

Providing an update during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 27, 2026, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, said technical teams are working under intense conditions to restore full operations.

“Engineers are working around the clock. Within this week, they are pushing to restore all the plants back online,” he stated.

The Minister explained that the disruption has been compounded by long-standing infrastructure challenges, including aging equipment and overstretched transformers, which have struggled to cope with rising demand.

Despite these setbacks, he expressed confidence in the ongoing recovery efforts, praising engineers for their dedication and resilience as they work to stabilise the national grid within the shortest possible time.
