Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Charles Forson, has called on the government to urgently engage the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) and other key stakeholders over concerns surrounding the Publican AI system operating at Ghana’s ports.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme on April 14, 2026, he emphasised that effective policy implementation requires early consultation with affected groups, rather than addressing challenges only after rollout.

He acknowledged reports from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) indicating that the system has contributed to a 46% increase in revenue.

However, he stressed that operational concerns raised by traders and importers must not be overlooked.

“If GUTA and the traders stop their operations, revenue will fall and Ghana will lose,” he stated.

Forson warned that the reported revenue gains could be undermined if importers are forced to halt operations due to dissatisfaction with the system, noting that this would have wider implications for the national economy.

He added that resistance from key players in the import sector should be viewed as a signal of deeper issues requiring urgent attention.

The Tema Central MP therefore called for sustained dialogue between government and stakeholders to ensure a balanced approach that supports both revenue generation and business continuity.
