Tema Shipyard and Drydock Limited (TSY) is recording a strong turnaround, with shipowners returning, revenues increasing, and operational performance improving under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Alhaji Osman Sulemana.

Sulemana, appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, has led efforts to reposition the shipyard through improved efficiency, stronger commercial focus, and enhanced service delivery.

Within the past year, TSY has recorded more than 55 percent growth in revenue, driven by operational reforms and a renewed focus on client satisfaction. The shipyard, which previously struggled, is now attracting vessels from across the sub-region.

Industry players say improved turnaround times, better technical execution, and changes in management approach are contributing to renewed confidence in the facility.

A regional fleet operator noted that performance at the shipyard has improved significantly, citing efficiency, professionalism, and timely delivery as key factors influencing their decision to return.

The turnaround is also being supported by a reconstituted Board chaired by Dr. Sipa Yankey, which is providing strategic oversight to strengthen governance and long-term planning.

Located within the Tema Port enclave, TSY remains one of the largest drydock and ship repair facilities between Southern Europe and Southern Africa. Its infrastructure and location position it as a key asset in Ghana’s maritime sector.

Management says the shipyard is also expanding its operations beyond traditional ship repair into fabrication, offshore services, and shipbuilding as part of efforts to diversify revenue streams and ensure long-term sustainability.

Meanwhile, TSY has dismissed reports suggesting its involvement in fish farming or fish sales, describing such claims as false. Management emphasised that the company remains focused on maritime engineering and industrial services.

The recent improvements mark a shift in the shipyard’s operations, with management expressing confidence in sustained growth and increased regional relevance.
