Team Lead of The People’s Forum, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, is calling on the government to take a second look at the Sanitation and Pollution Levy, urging authorities to follow through on what he says was a clear earlier position that the tax was unnecessary.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The AM Show on April 7, 2026, Aboagye said many Ghanaians had been under the impression that the levy had already been scrapped, only to realise that it is still being charged.

For him, that disconnect raises concerns about consistency and transparency in government policy.

He explained that the issue goes beyond simply removing the levy.

In his view, it is about ensuring that government actions align with previous assurances given to the public.

Aboagye also pointed to the rising cost of fuel, which he says is placing additional strain on households across the country.

With fuel prices climbing, he argued that maintaining the levy only adds to the financial burden many families are already struggling to manage.

While acknowledging that there may have been reasons to keep the tax in place in the past, he believes current economic realities no longer justify it.

He emphasised that fuel prices influence almost every aspect of daily life, from transportation to the cost of goods and services.

Against this backdrop, Mr Aboagye is urging the government to act decisively by scrapping the Sanitation and Pollution Levy, insisting that doing so would not only ease pressure on citizens but also demonstrate a commitment to keeping faith with the Ghanaian public.
