Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama has reiterated his commitment to reducing lending rates in Ghana, stating that it is his personal goal to see interest rates fall below 10% by the time he leaves office.

Speaking at the Governor’s Roundtable Session during the Kwahu Business Forum on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Dr Asiama revealed that his daily aspiration goes beyond routine policy decisions and emphasised the importance of maintaining a low-interest, stable exchange rate environment.

“I'm on record to have declared that, for me, my personal prayer each morning is that, by the time I am leaving office, I want to see lending rates below 10%. It is such a necessary condition; there is nothing we can do without it. On our part at the Bank of Ghana, that is what we do,” he said.

The Governor also highlighted that this target is part of a broader effort to stimulate economic growth and support businesses across the country.

“Together we have to strive to maintain this new environment we have created in the past one year: a low-interest, stable exchange rate environment,” he added.

Dr Asiama officially assumed office as Governor of the Bank of Ghana on February 3, 2025, following his nomination by President John Dramani Mahama.
