The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has donated GH¢1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as the MahamaCares Fund, aimed at providing affordable healthcare for persons suffering from non-communicable diseases.

The donation was made at a ceremony attended by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adwoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and the Chief Executive of NPA, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo.

Tameklo, on his part, stated that the donation is part of NPA's commitment to supporting the government's initiative to provide affordable healthcare, citing President John Dramani Mahama's campaign promise to establish the MahamaCare programme.

Madam Darko-Opoku expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasising the importance of corporate social responsibility in supporting the fight against non-communicable diseases, which account for 45% of deaths in Ghana.

The MahamaCare programme aims to provide treatment for cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and other non-communicable diseases, with plans to roll out services to 30 facilities across the country from April.
