One of the weaknesses in our fisheries sector is the continual use of archaic inefficient canoes. If we talk about too many landing points, it follows logically from too many canoes..We should discourage use of canoes, encourage use of commercial fishing vessels with in- board engines and equipped to fish beyond the narrow confines of canoes.We should make full use of our EEZ . At the same time encourage alternative livelihood options for the young people of the coastal fishing communities.
