Ghana and Malawi have held bilateral talks to strengthen their digital partnership following strategic engagements at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain.
On the sidelines of the global technology summit, Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, met with Malawi’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr Shadric Namalomba, to explore practical steps for accelerating digital transformation in both countries.
Discussions focused on expanding digital infrastructure, improving connectivity in underserved communities, and promoting innovation-led development.
A key highlight was a detailed exchange on universal access, with Ghana sharing insights into the work of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
Malawi expressed strong interest in Ghana’s model, particularly how GIFEC is financed and sustained, and requested documentation to serve as a potential benchmark for strengthening universal access initiatives in their country.
Both sides agreed to facilitate exchange visits between technical teams and share progress reports on digital infrastructure deployment and policy frameworks.
Also present at the meeting was GIFEC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Francisca Adjei, underscoring the Fund’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and supporting knowledge-sharing partnerships across Africa.
The engagement reflects a shared determination by Ghana and Malawi to build a digitally inclusive Africa through collaboration, transparency, and strategic investment in infrastructure.
