Accra is expected to witness a major disruption on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and allied groups take to the streets to protest what they describe as the unlawful takeover of lands reserved for lorry stations by private developers.
The planned demonstration, announced at a press conference on September 15, will see drivers and transport operators converge at the Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB) enclave before marching to the Jubilee House to present a petition to the government.
According to the Deputy PRO of GPRTU, Samuel Amoah, the protest is the culmination of years of frustration over the gradual encroachment on public lands earmarked for transport infrastructure.

“This is not just about land; it is about the future of our industry and the millions of commuters who depend on it,” he said as quoted by myjoyonline.com.
The Concerned Drivers Association, led by its President, William Osei, has urged all commercial drivers to suspend operations on the day of the march.
Such a move is expected to significantly disrupt transport services across the capital, sending a strong message to policymakers.
Traders and market women who rely on lorry stations for their daily income have also thrown their weight behind the protest.
They warned that losing these spaces to private construction projects would devastate livelihoods.
In an emotional plea, some called on the Vice President and First Lady, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to intervene before thousands of informal workers are displaced.
The unions argue that the creeping conversion of public spaces into private shopping malls and residential complexes represents a dangerous trend.
They insisted that protecting lorry stations is not only in the interest of drivers but of millions of daily commuters.
