CDC Credit Union grants over GH¢10,000 loans to members

Kumasi, Aug. 13, GNA - The Anwiam branch of the Christian Divine Church Co-operative Credit Union in Kumasi last year granted loans totalling over GH¢10,000 to its customers to help them to expand their businesses.

The union also saw a rise in savings mobilization from the 2007 figure of GH¢20,000 to more than GH¢30,000 during the period, Mr. Kwasi Sarpong-Kumankuma, the Manager, told the GNA in an interview. Established two years ago with 20 members, the number has now grown to 120.

Credit unions, he said, played vital role in the country's socio-economic development since through them many people are able to improve on their financial situation.

He urged those who have benefited from loans to ensure that they paid back on time to enable the facility to be extended to others. Mr Sarpong-Kumankuma spoke of plans to support the church to build a school in Kumasi as its contribution to the promotion of education. He singled out for commendation the Rev Isaac Kingsford Arthur, Ashanti Regional Head of the Church, for the vision, initiative and foresight to establish the Union. The Rev. Arthur called on both church members and the general public to join the Union.
