Youth establish gari plant

Boabeng(B/A), June 4, GNA - The youth at Boabeng in Nkoranza North District of Brong Ahafo have established a gari processing factory, known as "Nipa Hia Mmoa Gari Processing Factory", in the area to help alleviate poverty. Okyeame Kwadwo Brafi, Managing Director of the factory, told the Ghana News Agency that the project had offered better market for cassava farmers and enticed more youth to engage in the cultivation of the crop.

"Before the establishment of the factory about three months ago, the people used cassava to only prepare 'kokonte or fufu', which did not add any value, until they started processing it into gari," the Managing Director said.

Okyeame Brafi said the factory would support the education of promising but needy students, as well as children of members of the establishment. He said lack of adequate funds with which to purchase cassava for the factory was a major challenge and appealed to the district assembly to assist, as the cultivation of cassava was an employment avenue for the youth.
