Ghana’s leading mobile network, MTN has revealed it is channelling its energies and resources to support youth development as it launched its 21 Days of Y’ello Care.

MTN is looking to empower the teeming youth with employable skills, digital innovation and marketing among others.

Launched in 2014, the MTN 21 Days of Y’ello Care was instituted as part of the mobile operator’s corporate social responsibility initiative, where staff across the country embark on various volunteering activities in their communities.

General Manager for MTN Northern Sector, Nii Adotey Mingle told Ultimate Business: “The focus for this year is the youth and it’s about creating a better future for them basically. What we’re looking at is identifying in certain segments, the youth between the ages of 15 to 24 to give them the lessons about what to do with their lives.”

“We’re looking at computer training, bead-making, getting young CEOs to give them digital training, market their businesses. In a nutshell, we’re looking at a broad spectrum of things and it’s purely educational”, Adotey Mingle stated.

He also expressed hope that: “At the end of the 21 days, we should expect that we would have a young CEO who is running his business already, has acquired digital skills to for instance sell his stuff online, able to get customers online, get market across the world and not just Ghana.”

This year the activities lined up for the campaign is in collaboration with the National Youth Authority (NYA).

The MTN Ghana Northern Sector Boss further explained: “The NYA is the umbrella organization for the youth so when we tap in as a corporate entity and partner them, it makes life easy, because they know exactly where the youth who have issues are; those who need employment skills and support are.”

Aside communities, Mr Adotey Mingle called for full participation from MTN Ghana staff to make the programme a huge success.
