Young entrepreneurs urged to strengthen their capacity

Andy Osei Okrah, Founder of the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition (YPYC), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and a network of young entrepreneurs, has challenged the youth to position themselves for Ghana’s transformation.

He said it was important for the youth to seize all available opportunities to strengthen their capacity as it would provide them with essential skills to transform the nation.

Mr Osei made this at the launch of the 10th Young Professionals Transformational Leadership Conference and Young Role Model Awards 2019 on the theme,’’ Strategic Positioning of Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs for Ghana’s Transformation’’ in Accra.

The transform summit brought together entrepreneurs, academia, job seekers, and students to attest to YPYC’s keen commitment to galvanising the youth into a strong force for the needed transformational leadership that Ghana and Africa need.

He said the transformational summit gave the youth entrepreneurs a unique opportunity to appreciate the current status of capacity development available to them and shared their experiences and challenges on the conviction that they were strategically placed as agents of change, capable of transforming Ghana into a technologically advanced economy.

“Youth development should be taken seriously devoid of politics, rhetoric and a deliberate, structured, intentional plan, and policy to position the them to their entrepreneurial acumen, access to free capital, and technical capacity to compete with their contemporaries on the global stage’’ he said.

He challenged the youth to eschew greed, apathy and all social vices, adding that, ‘’When we do these, we can position ourselves strategically as young leaders and entrepreneurs for Ghana’s rapid transformation’’.

Mr Osei used the occasion to outline some of the YPYC’s activities for this year 2019 such as, Y- leadership and entrepreneurship challenge slated for July 05, young professionals cup, in August 31, blood donation and medical screening, September 07, transform road show, September 14 and 21 in Tamale and Sunyani, grand finale transform summit October 05 in Accra and thanksgiving service on October 06, respectively.

Dr Jemima Nunoo of GIMPA, said many youth lacked the requisite skills to manage their affairs and encourage them to learn and continue with their jobs in ensuring the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of the civil society sector in Ghana. Mr Abraham Kofi Asante, Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund Electronic Communication (GIFEC) called on the Government to support young professionals to enable them to realise their dreams since skills development was key to everything.

He urged the young professional to adopt to international best practices in the ICT sector.
